University of the Nations Conference Workbook

A 82-page workbook in four languages designed for delegates at a conference in Costa Rica.

The brief was to design a workbook with English, French, Portuguese and Spanish editions and provide print-ready artwork. In addition, a layout was to be supplied for translation into Korean. The workbook included conference information, precis of speakers’ sessions and space for delegates to write notes.

Provided with a clear page-plan, I determined the different typesetting lengths of each language and designed the grid according the longest language, which in this case was French — just. The images and illustrations were common to all. My design solution ensured that the pages were readable and usable, and with so much text the workbook had an open look with plenty of white space and room to allow, where necessary, the images and illustrations had suitable impact. Each section was proceeded by a title page and usually ended with space for note taking. I used these note taking sections as variable space to accommodate the different language lengths.
